Speech Arts & Drama online classes

Term 1 – starting September 22, 2021

The study of Speech Arts & Drama offers a range of opportunities to develop one’s speaking voice and communication skills. Through public speaking, storytelling and improvisation activities, participants learn to sequence and summarize facts and thoughts in their own words. They explore ways to use their voices effectively and improve their diction, articulation and delivery.

Using the Royal Conservatory of Music: Speech Arts & Drama syllabus as a guide, students develop techniques to interpret and perform various forms of literature expressively, strengthen their ability to speak with ease and clarity and confidently share their ideas and observations. Interested students may prepare for an RCM exam in Speech Arts & Drama at the appropriate grade level using the pieces they work on in class. Activities are designed to help develop each individual’s creative and imaginative voice and make new discoveries about themselves and others.

In this group setting, students benefit from presenting their work to one another, as well as becoming observant and attentive audience members. Age appropriate topics and texts will be provided in collaboration with ideas and interests generated by the students.

Each session culminates in a finale recital/open class.

Note: Term 1 will now be 20 weeks long instead of 16 weeks. Term 2 will run for 12 weeks beginning March 3, 2022 and offer two different programs.

Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 22, 2021  and end on February 16, 2022.

  • Level 1 ( Gr. 4, 5 & 6) Wednesdays 5 to 5:55 p.m.
  • Level 2 ( Gr. 7 & 8 )    Wednesdays 4 to 4:55 p.m.
  • Fee: $500

Kingsway Conservatory of Music

Kingsway Conservatory of Music

By now you have heard the very sad news about the closing of The Kingsway Conservatory of Music at the end of June 2021. This is indeed a great loss and a time of transition for many of us. I will continue to teach Speech Arts related group classes as well as private lessons via Zoom.

I’ll be taking a break from group classes during June. Starting in July, I’ll be offering a 6-week online storytelling group class called “Folktales, Myths and Legends” from July 7 to August 11, 2021.

Private instruction online will remain ongoing. In mid-September, I will begin online group classes again.

If you have any questions or if you need further information, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your participation and support of KCM’s programs especially during this challenging time due to Covid.

Folktales, Myths & Legends

For SUMMER 2021; 6 week online course for ages 9 and up
July 7 to Aug 11, 2021, Wednesdays 5 to 6 p.m. via ZOOM

Students will enter into the wonderful world of stories from around the world. Storytelling is an ancient art form where the goal is to re-tell stories in your own words rather than memorize exact wording. Techniques will be introduced through improvisation and other drama games to help students find their unique voice and style as storytellers.

Course fee: $150 payable by e-transfer. Instructions for e-transfer will be sent upon receipt of a registration. Fees must be paid at time of registration in order to hold a place in the course. If you are unable to use e-transfer, please contact me.
